A Comedic Crisis
The Republican response

Bill Clinton was a godsend. So was 'W'.
But soon we'll have Obama. What's a comedian to do?
Republicans, convening, are conniving to forestall
The dearth of White House humor that could befall us all.

Their proposal's so amazing that it prob'ly isn't cricket –
Sara Palin! Katherine Harris! Both babes on the same ticket!
The potential is enormous, for who could help but laugh,
When ev'ry thing each says or does reveals another gaffe.

Though each is quite a little past her hurly-girly prime,
Ann Corio at sixty-five was proof they still have time.
Comedians on This Old House claim they'll be "good to go"
While Letterman and Leno second Santa's "Ho-Ho-Ho."

How descriptive of these candidates, so obsessed
     with fame and money.
The risk to us, of course, is that we find their antics funny.
They're a crazy combination, but should we laugh or cry?
This isn't the Old Howard where burlesque was left to die.
